Yamakoshi Mura no Mari to Sanbiki no Koinu

A picture book serves as the basis for a story set in Yamakoshimura during the 2004 Chuuetsu earthquake in Niigata prefecture. Mari, who has recently given birth to three puppies, experiences the earthquake. Their home is destroyed, and an elderly man becomes trapped under the rubble. Mari somehow breaks free from her chain and comforts the man until rescue arrives. The man is saved, but he is unable to care for the dogs, leaving Mari and her puppies in the abandoned village. The story questions whether they can continue to survive there.
