Imaizumi and Naruko continue to challenge Teshima and try to get past him. However Teshima has been conserving his leg strength and is able to continue to block them and catch them when they try to break away. With no other choice left, Imaizumi and Naruko put all of their hopes in Onoda who challenges Teshima on a climb. Teshima uses most of his strength to stay even with Onoda, and he reveals he has timed Onoda's fastest climb carefully to where he knows when Onoda will slow down. Now Onoda must endure more on this climb than ever before if he is to pass Teshima. Failure to do so will result in all the first years leg strength having been used and will leave all three of them out of the Inter-high.
