A Native American boy named Lan lives with his father near the Sierra Nevada mountains. One day, he encounters two young bears and names the male Jacky and the female Jill. The boy and the bears quickly form a bond and become close friends. Their peaceful time together is cut short when Lan's father unintentionally kills the bears' mother. Moved with sympathy for the orphaned cubs, Lan chooses to bring Jacky and Jill to live with him and his father.
