Kazuma Satou was given the option to either go to heaven or be reborn in a fantasy world after his death. He chose the latter and was assigned by goddess Aqua to defeat the Demon King, with the freedom to select a weapon. Instead, he chose Aqua, who became a largely ineffective party member. Now, Kazuma and Aqua must manage their finances while dealing with additional adventurers joining their group. Megumin, a spellcaster, only uses her explosive magic once daily and refuses to learn other spells. Lalatina "Darkness" Dustiness Ford, a crusader, is a masochist who contrasts with Kazuma's own questionable behavior. The story continues with the group facing various challenges, struggling to earn money and cope with each other's difficult traits. Their plans often fail due to their own foolish actions.
