The revelation that Frank possesses sentience and that SARGs are constructed from alien corpses rather than reverse-engineered technology has deeply unsettled the pilots. Sue explicitly voices her fear of ever operating a SARG again. Meanwhile, Ryu endures persistent nightmares distorting his past to convince him that Maki never loved him. Complicating his emotional state is his developing relationship with Guenevere, who is pleased by his changed behavior and has openly declared her feelings for him. However, Ryu struggles to distinguish between Hattie and Maki in his mind, a difficulty exacerbated by Hattie’s current efforts to teach Frank how to speak.
