Koyomi sits in a large playground, recalling his mother and mountain bike, when he notices a young girl named Mayoi Hachikuji who departs. Hitagi Senjougahara arrives, and after discussing her attire, she reveals she is friends with Koyomi. They engage in a tense conversation while using the playground equipment. Koyomi later spots Mayoi examining a map and approaches her to offer assistance, but she refuses and ignores him. He surprises her by hitting her head against a sign, resulting in a hostile exchange where Mayoi introduces herself. A brawl ensues, which Koyomi wins. He then seeks Hitagi's help to assist Mayoi. When questioned, Mayoi admits she is not a lost child but a lost snail.
