When Hitagi was sick, her mother brought a cult member home who attempted to assault her; Hitagi injured him while her mother watched, leading to her family's destruction. Hitagi blames herself. She sees a glowing red crab that Koyomi and Oshino cannot perceive. During an attack, Oshino intervenes, allowing Hitagi to beg for her feelings and memories, which are restored. Flashbacks reveal the crab took her emotional weight and memories of her mother. Hitagi regains these, accepts her loss, and values her friendship with Koyomi. The next morning, Koyomi discovers his weight has increased due to the crab god's error.

Consequently, the arm will claim Suruga’s soul after three wishes are fulfilled.

Aug 28, 2009Suruga inherited a mummified hand from her mother, using it in 4th grade to win a race, which resulted in four competitors being hospitalized by a monster. She avoided wishing for years, fearing the arm’s negative nature, until jealousy over Koyomi and Hitagi’s relationship prompted a wish to be with Hitagi, causing the hand to grow into an arm. Oshino suggests amputation to resolve the devil’s contract, but Koyomi refuses, choosing to fight the entity instead. He enhances his vampiric abilities with Shinobu’s blood but is severely injured before Oshino intervenes. Koyomi later recognizes the girl from the mountain as Nadeko Sengoku, a childhood friend of his sisters. He and Suruga intercept her at the shrine and bring her to Koyomi's home. There, Nadeko removes her clothes to reveal snakelike skin and begs Koyomi to save her.

Koyomi retrieves a charm to banish the spirit, but upon returning to the shrine, he discovers a second Snake Constrictor targeting Nadeko, placed by the initially rejected boy. While the first spirit is expelled, Koyomi must physically battle the second to save Nadeko. He and Suruga manage to drive it away, though Koyomi feels guilt over failing to destroy it, knowing the curse will return to its originator.

Shinobu then bites Tsubasa, draining her energy until she reverts to her original human form.
