Ofuku’s group halts at the Kakegawa Inns on the Tokaido Road as Kagerou escapes. Tenzen, resurrected, recaptures her just before she kills Oboro. Oboro issues a public challenge to lure Gennosuke from hiding and retrieve the scroll. That night, Tenzen tortures Kagerou, whose screams pierce the darkness. When Oboro intervenes, Tenzen attempts to rape her again in front of Kagerou but is interrupted by Gennosuke’s arrival. The blind Gennosuke draws his sword, and Tenzen attacks, wounding him repeatedly. Believing victory is near, Tenzen confesses that he originally instigated the Kouga attack on Iga to perpetuate the rivalry between the two clans.
