Ten days after the war begins, a barely standing Gennosuke and Oboro confront each other in a final duel at Hattori Hanzo's residence. They care little for the outcome, reflecting on their shared past. Hattori Kyohachiro, monitoring the succession dispute, apologizes to Oboro for the resulting slaughter, and she requests he keep Gennosuke's flute. Ofuku attempts to avoid involvement but remains under suspicion. Oboro declares her love for Gennosuke before turning her sword on herself to die. Gennosuke accepts the scroll, awarding victory to Oboro and the Iga, then carries her body into the river and ends his own life.
