Ep. 17: Black Jack races time to find a cure for the Phoenix disease while evading a nuclear missile.

Black Jack redirects the Sky Hospital toward the North Pole as global doctors struggle against the Phoenix disease. Dr. Kuma warns that they have only 21 hours to find a cure before a nuclear missile destroys the virus and all infected individuals. Renka attempts to assassinate Jack but is stopped by her father, Zen Mantoku, resulting in both being shot. Zen dies, but Jack operates to save Renka, discovering an anti-virus in her system that can cure the disease. However, the missile has already been launched. As the disease spreads in Black Jack’s body, he faints and sees visions of Benitokage, Dr. Kiriko, Dr. Honma, his parents, and an adult 18-year-old Pinoko, who urges him to continue. Dr. White successfully evades the missile detonation, ensuring everyone’s safety. The cure, named Honma Antiserum after Dr. Honma, is made freely available. Black Jack and Pinoko return to the site of his ruined house to rebuild.
