Ichigo activates his Bankai to engage Kariya in combat. Rantao explains that multiple Joukaishou are dispersed across Soul Society and will detonate upon Kariya’s activation, prompting the Thirteen Court Guard Squads to seal them. Ichinose arrives and strikes Ichigo but then turns his blade against Kariya, stating he did not join to see the Soul Society destroyed. Kariya kills Ichinose and reveals Messer, which takes the form of a sword of wind. This segment is part of The Bount: Assault on Soul Society arc, specifically episode 16 out of 18.
