In Hueco Mundo, the hollow Grand Fisher becomes an imperfect arrancar and enters the real world. Meanwhile, Shinji Hirako enrolls at Ichigo Kurosaki's school. During a routine hollow purification, Ichigo is confronted by Hirako, who demonstrates the ability to willingly produce a hollow mask similar to Ichigo's unconscious usage. Hirako asks Ichigo to join his group, the Vizards. Simultaneously, Kon, inhabiting Ichigo's body, is attacked by Grand Fisher. Uryuu Ishida is also attacked by a pair of hollows but is rescued by his father, Ryuuken Ishida, who reveals he is a Quincy. This event marks the beginning of the Arrancar: The Arrival arc.
