Kumoi eliminates opposing clan members to consolidate his power. In Karakura Town, Kisuke Urahara detects a shortage of spirit particles and links this to the Kasumiouji clan. Kumoi dispatches Hanza and a dozen assassins to kill Ichigo, his friends, and Lurichiyo. Hanza battles Ichigo using a mirror weapon called Saiga, which grows stronger by consuming spiritual energy. He traps Ichigo in a separate dimension. Yoruichi Shihouin frees Ichigo and informs him that the other assassins have been defeated, prompting Hanza to retreat. The following day, Kumoi installs Lurichiyo's fiancé, Shuu Kannogi, as the new clan head. This content relates to The New Captain Shuusuke Amagai arc: (7/22).
