Kumoi schedules Lurichiyo's wedding for the following day, prompting Kenryuu and Enryuu to fear an imposter substitution. Ichigo confronts Lurichiyo, who admits knowledge of the assassins' true goal and Kumoi's involvement, expressing guilt over Chad and Uryuu's injuries. She escapes into the Soul Society to attend the marriage and control Kumoi, but arrives with blank eyes and no desire to leave. Ichigo, Rukia, Kenryuu, and Enryuu attempt to follow but are blocked because Kenryuu and Enryuu are blamed for kidnapping her. On the wedding day, the four enter the compound to retrieve Lurichiyo, only to be surrounded by second division captain Soi Fon and her squad. Lurichiyo fails to respond to Ichigo's calls.
