Divisions two and three secure the Kasumiouji compound while Soi Fon returns Kenryuu and Enryuu to the clan per Yamamoto's order. Kumoi's assassins imprison the real Lurichiyo, who is visited by Kibune before he kills a drunken third division member. The next morning, Renji Abarai asks Byakuya Kuchiki about Rukia's pursuit. Byakuya denies concern and hands search party control to Renji. Ichigo, Rukia, and Shuu attempt to rescue Lurichiyo but face Amagai, who attacks Ichigo with his shikai. Shuu halts the fight and reveals Kumoi's true intentions to Amagai, who then agrees to assist them.
