Inside the Dangai, Rukia and others distract reigai while Ichigo, Urahara, and Kon infiltrate the Seireitei. They search for Inaba's laboratory, where Urahara attempts to restore Ichigo's powers using a soul candy. Nanao and Nemu's reigai discover them, forcing Ichigo to consume the incomplete candy just before an explosion. This leaves his Soul Reaper and hollow powers unbalanced. As the trio escapes, they are ambushed by false captains. Yoruichi and the original captains arrive to save them and prepare for battle. This event occurs during the Gotei 13 Invading Army arc, specifically episode 20 out of 26.
