Yushima attempts to ignore Ichigo's hollowfied state, but the creature pursues him to Soukyoku Hill. Captains and their reigai counterparts are reinforced by lieutenants, while Rukia, Renji, Orihime, Uryuu, and Chad arrive to stop Yushima. However, the combined strength of Nozomi and Inaba overwhelms the group. Yushima unveils the true nature of his zanpakutou, Sumitsukigasa, and defeats everyone present. Before he can deliver a final blow, Ichigo leaps in front of Rukia to intercept an attack intended for her, sacrificing himself to protect her life during this critical confrontation on the hill.
