Seventeen months after defeating Sousuke Aizen and losing his Soul Reaper abilities, Ichigo Kurosaki lives peacefully as a third-year high school student. While walking home, he stops a thief and returns the stolen bag to its owner. The following day, the thief and his gang confront Ichigo at school, where Uryuu Ishida intervenes. Meanwhile, the bag’s owner meets with friends and reveals that he has located Ichigo. This narrative marks the beginning of the Lost Substitute Shinigami arc, serving as the first installment of twenty-three episodes in this storyline.
