Orihime and Uryuu proceed toward Rukia but encounter Makizou Aramaki, a Soul Reaper from the eleventh division. Twelfth division members arrive to assist, yet Mayuri detonates them as human bombs. Orihime shields Uryuu and herself from the blast. Mayuri expresses a desire to experiment on Orihime. Uryuu attacks Mayuri but is immobilized by the lieutenant Nemu Kurotsuchi, who restrains him using her body. Mayuri’s zanpakutou possesses paralyzing capabilities that disable Uryuu. The captain reveals he has conducted experiments on numerous Quincy, including Uryuu’s grandfather, Souken Ishida, and admits to causing his death. This segment concludes the Soul Society: The Rescue arc.
