Mr. Brighton visits Pony's Home to host a barbecue for the orphans, secretly hoping to persuade his wife Jane to adopt Candy due to her generous nature. Candy fears separation from Annie and pretends to wet the bed to avoid adoption, while Annie attracts Mrs. Brighton's attention instead. The Brightons choose Annie, causing Candy to run away in betrayal. Annie tracks her down, apologizes for her envy, and asks for permission to leave. Candy grants her blessing and promises to care for Annie's pet raccoon, Klint, since Mrs. Brighton dislikes animals.
