Ep. 32: Nuriko burns Ashitare and decides to find the Shinzaho while Tamahome struggles with Yui's words.

Nuriko saves Miaka from Ashitare by using Chiriko's signal flares, declaring he will die for her. This act makes Miaka view him differently. Meanwhile, Tamahome meets Yui, who claims he is a fictional character and that he and Miaka cannot be together unless Suzaku is summoned. After Suboshi appears, Tamahome flees, leaving Yui uncertain. The group reunites at a house, where Tamahome drinks alone due to Yui's comments. Nuriko admits his love for Miaka and his readiness to die for her. The following day, Nuriko leaves to locate the Shinzaho, allowing Tamahome and Miaka to bond. Upon reaching the cave, Nuriko is confronted by Ashitare just as he attempts to move the boulder blocking the entrance.
