Ep. 33: Nuriko sacrifices himself to save the Shinzaho, leaving Miaka devastated by his death.
Aired on November 16, 1995

During a fierce clash, Nuriko is fatally pierced by Ashitare’s claws but manages to break his opponent's neck. Sensing the disturbance, Miaka and the Suzaku warriors rush toward the site. Nuriko, bleeding onto the snow, uses his remaining strength to move a boulder, ensuring access to the Shinzaho. Miaka and Tamahome arrive to find him dying. Tamahome signals Mitsukake for aid while Nuriko confesses his love to Miaka before passing away. Miaka initially refuses to accept his death, but Tamahome compels her to return. Mitsukake restores Nuriko’s appearance and gives Miaka his armbands for protection. After mourning and vowing his sacrifice was not in vain, the group buries him in the snow and proceeds toward the Shinzaho cave.
