At the Imperial New Year's party, Kaiser Reinhard publicly announces his marriage to Hildegard von Mariendorf. Following this, Hilda's father, Count Mariendorf, resigns and recommends Mittermeyer as the new Chief Minister of Internal Affairs. Ministers subsequently discuss joint rulership and succession rights for the upcoming Empress. Princess Grünewald visits the couple on Phezzan. On January 29th, Reinhard and Hilda are wed. However, Oberstein interrupts the ceremony midway to report that riots have broken out in Heinessen.
