Reinhard observes the new year with his officers while Heinessen citizens panic over government responses. Admiral Bucock is appointed to command Alliance defenses despite fleets being weakened by previous campaigns, leaving only the 1st fleet intact. The 14th and 15th fleets are hastily assembled from 20,000 ships scattered across the Alliance. Military leaders recognize they lack sufficient vessels to block the Phezzan corridor exit. Yang receives unrestricted authority regarding future operations for the 13th fleet. On January 8, 799 S.C. / 490 I.C., the first Imperial fleet under Mittermeyer traverses the Phezzan corridor, entering Alliance territory and escalating the strategic crisis.
