Dormitory residents feel guilty about discovering Yuuji's history but continue reading. The flashback begins in a hospital where Asako Kusakabe and her friend JB visit him. Asako declares she will be his god and takes him home, where she sees his scars. During dinner, Yuuji accidentally kills a fly and displays trauma from killing people. Asako tries to feed him, but he rejects her cooking. She gifts him a dog named John, who becomes his companion. Asako trains Yuuji, who excels at sharpshooting. Later, a bear attacks the house and kills John while Asako is away. Yuuji chases the bear but cannot shoot it after seeing it feeding its cubs. He feels useless, but Asako consoles him. While burying John, Asako tells Yuuji he cannot die until he saves five people and should become someone who pulls the trigger for others.

Yuuji joins Asako's organization and trains at an American military academy.

Yuuji assists Danny with training and wins first place in marksmanship. He is challenged by second-place winner Milliela Stanfield to a shooting contest. After Yuuji makes an impossible shot, Millie falls in love with him and follows him everywhere. Yuuji, Danny, and Millie are later assigned to the same platoon.

During a night mission, Yuuji kills 9 enemies after encouragement, vomiting with each shot, but saves the unit. He eventually overcomes his aversion to killing. Later, Yuuji returns to Japan, where Millie reveals her rejected love for him. He reunites with Asako at their mountain home, offering his life, but she declines.

He is immediately assigned to assassinate Ethan Glow, who is revealed to be Heath Oslo, the terrorist who raised him after his mother’s death. Overcome with emotion, Yuuji fails the mission and is abducted by an unknown group. Back at school, the girls are shocked to see Yuuji on the news, falsely implicated in Oslo’s terrorist attack.

The next day, Kazuki distributes untraceable cellphones and convinces Yumiko to confess her feelings for Yuuji to test her resolve. Later, Kazuki explains the truth behind the bus accident years ago where Amane escaped while she remained behind.

JB tells assistant Chiara Farrell she is confined to prevent testimony regarding Yuuji’s alleged consulate attack and potential execution. Back at the girls' houseboat, Thanatos announces Yuuji’s transfer on August 6 at 6:00 p.m., demanding 100 million for his rescue. The team executes complex plans: Yumiko trades online, Amane memorizes a route, and Sacchi retrieves a pink rifle from Morishima, who notes Makina resembles Asako. Michirou earns billions through global transactions, leaving exactly enough for the raid. Principal Chizuru accepts a new school site from Thanatos. JB receives a broadcast about the Mihama Women's Volunteer Corps YK Rescue Campaign. Meanwhile, Heath Oslo discusses warhead placement and retrieval plans. On the operation day, Yumiko gives a final pep talk before the girls face the war zone.

On operation day, the girls prepare while Makina sets up a sniper position, Michiru retrieves a requested item, Sacchi buys ingredients for smoke bombs, and Yumiko discusses plans with Thanatos. Meanwhile, pilot Milliela Stanfield steals a uniform in Okinawa. As Yuuji is transferred to Akasaka, his armored car is attacked by Oslo's men, who kidnap him and attach a six-hour bomb. Makina disables their vehicles, and Sacchi uses smoke bombs to blind and knock out the attackers. Amane drives the group to safety, but they are ambushed by a helicopter. Milliela intervenes, destroying the enemy aircraft. James Okada informs them that Thanatos' core, Kazuki, can be saved. JB frees Kazuki from the Thanatos System, and the group escapes via Amane's car, which launches into the sea onto their reinforced houseboat. A submarine emerges, and Kazuki appears on deck, introducing herself as Thanatos.

On deck, Yuuji battles Du Pont, a white-haired lookalike claiming kinship, who uses a performance-enhancing drug. Yuuji eventually matches him and wins. Exhausted, he reaches Oslo, who draws Asako’s katana. Yuuji dodges until disarmed, then stabs Oslo with a pen. He removes the wrist bomb with Oslo’s key and escapes the exploding ship after seeing Asako. Two years later, the girls live on Yuuji’s island. Makina collects eggs, Sacchi fishes, and Amane returns from the mainland. JB and Chizuru join them, announcing Mihama Academy’s new building is ready. Yuuji, recovering from his injuries, declines rejoining the new organization. Yumiko urges him to live for everyone. The group poses for a photo. In the final scene, Kazuki reveals her metal arm is a toy, disappointing Chizuru.
