Mia forces Fawles to testify about a kidnapping orchestrated by Dahlia and Valerie to steal a $2 million diamond. Fawles explains that Valerie shot him while Dahlia faked drowning, leading to his wrongful conviction based on Valerie's lies. Mia argues Dahlia murdered Valerie to hide her greed, but lacks proof. Desperate, she asks Fawles to recount events before his arrest. Before he can finish, Fawles drinks poison Dahlia gave him as a contingency for distrust. He dies instantly, leaving Mia, Armando, and Edgeworth in shock and despair over the unresolved truth.
