Phoenix, Maya, and Pearl travel to Hazakura Temple for Maya's training. They encounter children's book author Elise Deauxnim, nuns Bikini and Iris, and Larry, who serves as Elise's apprentice. Phoenix observes that Iris strongly resembles Dahlia. Later, a scream alerts Phoenix to Elise, who is found impaled by the Shichishito sword of a statue. When Phoenix attempts to cross the burning Dusky Bridge to reach Maya, it collapses, causing him to fall into the river. Iris is arrested for the murder. While hospitalized with a cold resulting from the fall, Phoenix requests that Edgeworth defend Iris instead.
