EP 49Edward and allies struggle against Pride while Kimblee moves and Promised Day begins
Mar 21, 2010Edward, Greed, and Lan Fan face challenges against Pride, who has assimilated Gluttony. Alphonse allows himself to be captured, but Hohenheim traps them in a lightless soil mountain to block Pride's shadows. Kimblee acts as Scar's group learns of Bradley's train bombing. The Promised Day starts, with Greed heading to Central alone while Edward and Scar reunite to plan. In Central, Mustang and his team attack soldiers using Bradley's wife as a hostage. Military superiors then order the execution of everyone in the group except Mustang.

Mar 28, 2010Mustang's unit faces encirclement by Central soldiers until his former Ishval squadron intervenes to rescue them. Simultaneously, Briggs Fortress troops led by Buccaneer enter the conflict. With ammunition dwindling, Mustang's group is saved by Maria Ross and Rebecca Catalina. Mustang contacts the individual who brought Ross back from Xing, only to discover Havoc on the line. Meanwhile, Edward's party infiltrates the underground via the third laboratory and divides into two groups. Edward, Scar, Darius, Jerso, and Zampano proceed one way, while Hohenheim and Lan Fan take another. Just as they move, a general awakens the mannequin soldiers, escalating the danger.

Alphonse and Heinkel realize too late that Pride sent a morse code message by banging a stick on Alphonse's head. Kimblee attacks them and frees Pride from imprisonment. In the sewers, May is attacked by mannequin soldiers, and Envy merges with them to return to his regular form. Armstrong rescues Olivier from Sloth and joins the fight. Alphonse transmutes his legs off to help Heinkel, who gives him the philosopher's stone Kimblee previously lost. Alphonse uses the stone to restore his legs and then faces Pride and Kimblee.

Although Alphonse is recaptured by Pride, Heinkel, healed by Marcoh, delivers a fatal blow to Kimblee. Mustang incinerates mannequin soldiers surrounding Edward’s group, while May lures Envy into a trap, causing both to fall into the lower chamber. Envy admits to killing Hughes, provoking Mustang to unleash a massive fire attack. Edward worries that Mustang’s rage will consume him as Envy realizes he cannot win and attempts to flee. Seeing Hawkeye approach for backup, Envy devises a plan. The episode concludes with Mustang encountering Hawkeye, who points a gun at his back.

Together, they inflict enough damage on Sloth to kill him, then turn their attention to the remaining mannequins. Meanwhile, Hohenheim fights Father underground. Father cannot extract the philosopher's stone from Hohenheim, who feels something is missing. After capturing most of the Central Command Headquarters, the Briggs Fortress soldiers begin to celebrate. However, Bradley, who is still alive, approaches the headquarters and promises to reclaim it.

May 9, 2010Hohenheim transfers souls from his philosopher's stone into Father to destroy him, but Father survives by shedding his skin. Bradley assaults Central Command, destroying Buccaneer's automail arm and fighting Greed at the main gate. Bradley reveals his hidden ultimate eye, and Buccaneer sacrifices himself to disarm Bradley, who then uses daggers. Meanwhile, Falman and Briggs Fortress soldiers resist Central forces. Meanwhile, Edward's group meets the gold-toothed doctor who created Bradley and faces numerous rejected Führer candidates. The doctor activates a transmutation circle linked to five research labs in Central, absorbing Edward, Alphonse, and Izumi into the process.

May 23, 2010During the battle, Bradley falls into the moat below the front gate. Dying, Buccaneer asks Ling to defend the gate. Grieving Fu's death, Ling uses Greed's ultimate shield to destroy Central forces. Meanwhile, Edward and Izumi find an unconscious Alphonse and subdued Hohenheim in Father's lair. With four human sacrifices secured, Father waits for the fifth. Above, a gold-toothed doctor slits Hawkeye's throat, demanding Mustang perform human transmutation as the fifth candidate to save her.

Wrath and Pride force Mustang to use a gold-toothed doctor as a sacrifice, causing him to pass through the Gate of Truth and lose his eyesight. He reappears in Father's lair alongside Pride, Father, and other sacrifices. Meanwhile, Scar battles Wrath above, and May crashes through the ceiling to find Alphonse unconscious. Alphonse stands before the gate to his body, despairing over its frailty for combat, but promises to return. He enters the gate, regaining consciousness in Father's lair and completing the count for the five sacrifices.

Scar reveals a reconstruction transmutation circle from his brother’s research tattooed on his other arm during his battle with Wrath. Although Edward’s group gains the advantage and Greed arrives, Father captures four sacrifices and uses Hohenheim to complete his transmutation circle. He absorbs all souls in Amestris, gaining sufficient power to split the earth. This allows him to unlock the sky and absorb the entity known as the Eye of God.

Jun 13, 2010Survivors discover Father used over fifty million Amestrian souls to suppress the Eye of God. Hohenheim activates stone fragments in the earth using the eclipse's umbra, returning souls to their original bodies and weakening Father. Bradley is blinded by sunlight and killed by Scar, who then activates a nationwide alkahestry circle to restore alchemy. Father retreats to find more souls. Edward stays behind to fight Pride, who attempts to steal Edward's body. Kimblee's soul appears within Pride to taunt him as Edward enters and destroys the vessel, reverting Pride to a fetus-like form. Edward spares Pride and leaves to join the others.

Jun 20, 2010Hohenheim and others prevent Father from creating more philosopher's stones, but Father spawns humans resembling the people of Xerxes and attacks with a blast that destroys half the headquarters. Alphonse and Hohenheim sustain heavy damage protecting the group. Briggs Fortress soldiers and Edward's allies join the fight to deplete Father's stone supply. Father lowers his barrier to absorb Greed's stone, allowing Edward, Armstrong, and Izumi to damage him. Father creates a blast that traps Edward's arm and destroys his automail. Alphonse convinces May to help him perform a transmutation, trading his soul for the return of Edward's right arm. Alphonse rejoins with his body on the other side, and Edward frees himself to attack Father.

Jun 27, 2010Father attempts to absorb Greed’s philosopher’s stone but is defeated when Greed sheds Ling’s body and carbonizes him. Edward pierces Father’s chest, releasing the trapped souls of Xerxes and banishing him to the Gate of Truth for eternity. Following this victory, the group mourns Alphonse’s death. Hohenheim offers his life to restore Alphonse, but Edward refuses, choosing instead to undergo human transmutation on himself. This act costs Edward his gate and alchemical abilities. As a result of this sacrifice, he is permitted to retrieve Alphonse in his original physical form. While the survivors recover, Hohenheim returns to Resembool and passes away peacefully at Trisha’s grave.

Jul 4, 2010Mustang refuses a philosopher's stone for his vision, prioritizing Havoc's legs, while Olivier secretly frees Scar to help Miles rebuild Ishbal. After Ling departs with promises to protect May's clan, the Elric brothers return to Resembool to reunite with Winry. Two years later, new Führer Grumman visits Bradley's wife, who raised Selim with compassion. Alphonse journeys east with Jerso and Zampano to study alkahestry, while Edward researches in the west to combine their findings. Before leaving, Edward and Winry confess their love through equivalent exchange. The final scene depicts Ed and Winry, now married with two children, alongside Al, May, Paninya, and Garfiel.
