There, he meets a flask-bound being created from his blood, who names him and teaches alchemy. The King of Xerxes seeks immortality, leading to a mass transmutation sacrifice using the entire nation. Hohenheim awakens alone after the being creates a body resembling him, becoming Father. In the present, Hohenheim encounters Izumi and Sig. Noting her organ damage from the ultimate sin, he rearranges her organs to improve blood flow. He then reveals to them that he is a philosopher's stone in human form.

Miles attempts to snipe Kimblee, but Kimblee anticipates the trap and uses snow cover to enter the mines. Edward pursues but is attacked by chimeras Darius and Heinkel. Edward disables them using an ammonia-based stink bomb derived from dynamite. He knocks a philosopher's stone from Kimblee's hand, but Kimblee reveals a second one hidden in his mouth. This attack sends Edward and the chimeras down a mine shaft, leaving Edward impaled by a steel bar. Meanwhile, Alphonse loses consciousness as his soul returns to his body. Within the military, as the chosen generals are panicking over the Führer's possible death, Olivier sees her chance to try to take control. However, before she can do anything, she is halted by the sudden appearance of Father and Sloth.
