Ep. 8: Candidates face the Trick Tower's majority rule challenge in Phase Three of the Hunter Exam.

The candidates arrive at the Trick Tower, a tall pillar where they must descend within 72 hours to pass Phase Three. After a climber is killed by flying monsters, Gon, Killua, Kurapika, and Leorio discover hidden trap doors that lead inside. They realize each door works only once per person, forcing them to split up, yet they all end up in the same room. Lippo, the examiner, provides five wristwatches for voting on paths, requiring a fifth member to proceed. Tonpa falls through a trap door to join them. Following majority rule, the group reaches an arena to fight prisoners hired by Lippo. Winning three rounds allows passage, but prisoners gain sentence reductions for every hour the candidates remain. Tonpa volunteers first against Bendot but immediately surrenders, admitting to sabotaging candidates annually. Kurapika stops Leorio from reacting, explaining this tactic aims to waste time. Gon then prepares to face Sedokan, a jailed serial bomber, in the second match.
