Inuyasha, Kagome, and Shippo confront Hakudoshi at the myosei tree, where he places slug demons to weaken it and stop the rat demons from being purified. After Hakudoshi warns that Kikyo must reveal herself or face worse consequences, he escapes. Meanwhile, Miroku and Sango encounter Kohaku at the shrine box. Rat demons surround the pair, but Kikyo fires a Sacred Arrow into the box, enabling Inuyasha to destroy it and eliminate the demons. Hakudoshi then abducts Kohaku. Sango experiences conflicting emotions about protecting Kohaku, who was responsible for massacring the castle inhabitants, despite his actions being influenced by Naraku.
