This act makes her the new deity of a rundown shrine where Tomoe, a fox yokai, refuses to serve her. Shrine spirits Onikiri and Kotetsu explain Nanami's new duties, including recording human prayers, and take her to the World Over Yonder to find Tomoe. After Tomoe expresses disinterest, Nanami returns to the shrine but is chased by a demon hag in the forest. To escape the threat, she forcibly kisses Tomoe, creating a binding contract that makes him her familiar.

Nanami becomes depressed after discovering Kurama’s rude behavior, and is later falsely accused of stealing his money. Tomoe intervenes dramatically to clear Nanami’s name and provides lunch. The following day, Nanami refuses to wear the hood and rejects Kurama. He confronts her on the roof, prompting her to leave. Tomoe identifies Kurama as a crow tengu yokai attempting to usurp Nanami’s role as Land God. She wounds his face, transforms him into an ostrich, and chases him. Nanami orders Tomoe to restore Kurama to human form and tends to his injury, advising him to maintain a good appearance for the girls.

Oct 16, 2012Himemiko, an Imperial Priestess and catfish yokai, visits Nanami but is blocked by Tomoe. After Tomoe argues with Himemiko’s familiar Aotake, Nanami intervenes and uses a sacred word binding to force Tomoe’s obedience. Himemiko asks for help reconnecting with Kotarō Urashima, a human boy she met ten years ago at Lake Isara near a park. Despite Tomoe’s warning that yokai loving humans is forbidden, Nanami agrees to help. The next day, Nanami and Tomoe locate Kotarō working at a restaurant. Nanami persuades him to meet Himemiko in the park. The following afternoon, Tomoe transforms Himemiko into a human girl. While Kotarō buys sodas, Himemiko plays with his Rubik's cube but is bullied by two boys. Nanami discreetly places a white talisman on a tree, boosting Kotarō’s courage so he can save her.

After Nanami leaves Tomoe sleeping, she is abducted by Mizuki, the snake yokai and former familiar, who takes her to his shrine intending to marry her. Upon realizing she cannot leave the shrine grounds, Nanami waits for rescue. She discovers that Yonomori Mitsuha, the shrine’s Water God, died years ago. When Mizuki attempts to force himself on her, Tomoe arrives to save Nanami and burns the shrine. Nanami stops Tomoe from destroying the Yonomori plum tree, which holds significance for Mizuki. Before departing, Nanami promises to visit Mizuki again when he feels lonely.

Kurama finds the pair outside and takes them to his home, where Nanami cares for a feverish Tomoe. Meanwhile, Narukami is horrified to see her shrine deteriorating due to Tomoe's absence. The following day, shrine spirits summon Tomoe to Narukami, leaving Nanami in tears. With assistance from Kurama, Onikiri, and Kotetsu, Nanami returns to the shrine, where Tomoe hides. After Nanami locates Tomoe in his pocket mirror, the spirits return the deity mark to Nanami and restore Tomoe to his normal form. Tomoe then kisses Nanami to reconfirm their familiar bond as a gesture of gratitude for her help.
EP 6Tomoe Disguises as Nanami to Maintain Attendance While Kurama Attempts to Impress Her
Nov 6, 2012Nanami remains home with a cold, so Tomoe attends school in her place to preserve her attendance record. Kurama is shocked to discover Tomoe is a student there, unaware that Nanami is currently in disguise. He attempts to impress her during English literature and music classes, but she remains unimpressed. After Kurama warns of increased miasma, Tomoe identifies a demon with a large tongue in the girls' locker room and rescues Ami Nekota, who agrees to keep the incident secret. Meanwhile, Mizuki visits Nanami at the shrine and induces a dream revealing Tomoe's past. In the vision, a malevolent version of Tomoe kills a demon disguised as an injured boy found in a forest before slipping and falling. Nanami wakes to find Tomoe has returned, and she is relieved to see his kind nature once more.

Nov 20, 2012During summer break, Nanami visits the beach with Ami and Kei to heal from heartbreak. Tomoe reluctantly joins them after Mizuki decides to come along, feeling jealous of Mizuki’s proximity to Nanami. Unbeknownst to the group, Mikage and Otohiko, the Wind God, are also present. Otohiko secretly causes Ami to drown, prompting Nanami to ask Tomoe to save her despite his reluctance. The Dragon King then appears to collect a debt from Tomoe for an attack on Ryūgū Castle 526 years ago, where he gouged out the King’s right eye. He captures Tomoe as collateral, demanding the eye’s return within two days. Upon returning to the shrine, Nanami asks Mizuki for help traveling back in time to retrieve the eye from Tomoe.
EP 9Nanami and Mizuki visit the Dragon King's Palace to resolve Tomoe's conflict with Yukiji
Nov 27, 2012Nanami and Mizuki follow Tomoe to his home, discovering he sought the eye to cure his ex-girlfriend Yukiji. Nanami allows Yukiji to consume the eye, then returns to the present to visit Isohime, who extracts the eye from Nanami in exchange for thirty years of her life. Mizuki kisses Nanami to become her familiar, saving her and retrieving the eye. The pair then travel to the Dragon King's palace, where they encounter Kamehime, the Dragon King's wife, who loses a quilted half coat. Tomoe breaks free and attacks the Dragon King, but Nanami intervenes, declaring her enduring feelings for him despite his rejection. Mizuki arrives with the half coat, revealing Kamehime made it. Tomoe learns Mizuki will now live at the shrine.

She discovers Mizuki in snake form inside Ami's bag and moves him to the restroom. Tomoe enters to retrieve Mizuki and departs. A boy Nanami meets begins flirting with her outside, but Tomoe intervenes, kicking him away. Tomoe firmly takes Nanami's hand to leave, leading Nanami to suspect that Tomoe harbors romantic feelings for her.

After getting drunk, Mizuki helps a mistreated girl by giving her sake that calms her employer. Meanwhile, Tomoe initially refuses to visit an amusement park until he discovers an elegant hairpin in his room, raising Nanami's suspicions. At the park, Tomoe persuades a reluctant Nanami to ride a roller coaster. He uses the hairpin to fix her hair afterward. Nanami becomes upset and runs away in tears after seeing Tomoe touch another girl's hair, though he was actually helping her up. Later, she rides the Ferris wheel alone and realizes she is wearing the hairpin Tomoe found. He explains he bought it for her long ago but stored it because she rarely wears her hair up. Nanami finally smiles upon hearing this explanation.

Kurama suggests adding kagura dance and fortune-telling to the event, providing Nanami with treats. Tomoe helps Nanami practice the difficult dance in a kimono for two days. However, Otohiko releases miasma at the shrine, which Nanami fails to exorcise despite multiple attempts. Feeling inadequate as a god, she flees the premises. Tomoe, remembering when Mikage left twenty years ago, calls out to her. Meanwhile, a box containing miasma in the shed bursts open, creating a dangerous situation for the approaching festival.
EP 13Nanami Returns to the Shrine and Reforms Her Contract with Tomoe
Dec 25, 2012While Tomoe and Mizuki search for Nanami, Onikiri and Kotetsu battle the miasma alone. Nanami reveals she used a white talisman to turn into air and returns to the shrine, realizing it is her home. A tsuchigumo sealed by Mikage escapes, threatening Onikiri and Kotetsu. Nanami defeats the creature using a kagura dance, with assistance from Tomoe and Mizuki. During the festival, familiar faces appear, surprising Nanami, who then performs the kagura dance for the crowd. Afterward, as Mizuki, Onikiri, and Kotetsu prepare sake, Nanami asks Tomoe for his opinion on her performance. She teases him when he calls it beautiful. Tomoe then expresses his sincere desire to renew their familiar contract, and they seal the agreement with a kiss.
