Hajime deduces that Tatsuyuki Hiyama killed Yonemura's team and posed as a Ghost Soldier. He notes that Yonemura left a Morse code message referencing a village event two years prior. Hajime suspects Hiyama used poisoned bread and has an accomplice, accusing Remi Morishita. Hiyama denies knowing her and ingests a poison capsule to take full responsibility. Yonemura's body is later found in a Japanese soldier uniform, confirming Hajime's theory. Remi admits guilt and is imprisoned. She reveals to Hajime that she is pregnant with Hiyama's child. They are survivors of a mountain village burned down two years ago by youths playing war games. After moving to Tokyo, they learned Hagimoto and others caused the fire, prompting Hiyama's revenge for their parents' deaths.
