Shiina is found hanging in a church with a missing ladder. Dr. Kawasaki tasks Hajime with solving the murders, and Hajime determines only Kawasaki lacks an alibi. Asami Hanamura claims she saw Yutaka Kawashima carrying the ladder during a test of courage. Kentaro Kato fears Ebisawa is targeting him. Yuri Shintani attempts to strangle Kato late at night. Hajime reveals Yuri is Kuniaki Ebisawa's elder sister but doubts she killed Morimura and Shiina. Kato requests to sleep in Hajime's room. While Hajime falls asleep, Kato is hanged in the room.
