The battleship Silvana ambushes and destroys several Disith ships in the Grand Stream before withdrawing. In the frontier town of Norkia, 15-year-old pilot Claus Valca and navigator Lavie Head prepare their vanship for the Norkia Cup race. They accept a sky courier mission to deliver two letters to Duke David Mad-thane, an Anatoray navy officer. Mad-thane is leading a Guild-supervised battle against a Disith fleet at Minagith. His forces achieve an initial victory using musketeers but then engage in artillery combat. As Claus and Lavie arrive on the flagship Claimh Solais to deliver the correspondence, the Anatoray fleet faces a surprise attack from a new Disith force.
