Kaito discovers the target of his mother’s exposure regarding a counterfeit scheme and plans to return fake cups, pistols, and letters from the Ryoma exhibit. His operation faces obstacles when Conan Edogawa arrives and a new security system is installed. Kaito disguises himself as an overweight middle-class man, removing lead from fake pistols to bypass metal detectors. He and his butler place replica pistols on security officers and mark items with signs. Conan notes that Phantom Lady crimes are unreported, prompting Kaito to show him a replica. Kaito triggers a fire detector, causing water to drench everyone. Gouzo’s henchmen stage a theft of a rare pistol as fake signs reveal hidden replicas. Conan later visits Kaito, deciding not to turn him in because his mother admires Ryoma. Kaito reveals his mother was the Phantom Lady. As Kaito departs in disguise, he hears Aoko speak unflatterably about him, making him self-conscious.
