Ep. 9: Homura saves Kyouko from Sayaka's witch form while Kyubey reveals the truth about magical girls

Homura manipulates time to rescue Kyouko from a witch and delivers Sayaka’s body to Madoka, revealing that Sayaka transformed due to despair. Kyubey explains that Incubators harvest energy from the transition between hope and despair to prevent the universe's heat death, viewing emotions as illnesses. Desperate to save Sayaka, Kyouko asks Madoka to help reach her human feelings and retrieve her Soul Gem. During the confrontation, Kyouko shields Madoka from attacks while Madoka attempts to communicate with Sayaka. When Sayaka attacks Madoka, Homura evacuates Madoka, allowing Kyouko to sacrifice herself to destroy the witch. Kyubey taunts Homura, noting that without Kyouko, stopping Walpurgisnacht requires Madoka to become a magical girl.
