She watches Hitomi confess to Kyousuke, deepening her despair. Homura offers a Grief Seed, which Sayaka rejects due to distrust. To protect Madoka, Homura attempts to kill Sayaka, but Kyouko intervenes. Kyubey pressures Madoka to wish for Sayaka, yet Homura shoots Kyubey, breaking down and urging Madoka against self-sacrifice. Madoka feels she has met Homura before and searches for Sayaka. A replacement Kyubey identifies Homura as an entity from another timeline. Kyouko finds Sayaka, implied to have killed two men on a train. Sayaka admits her stupidity as her dark Soul Gem shatters into a Grief Seed. Kyubey reflects on the term magical girl as a prelude to becoming a witch.
