Takeru Ooyama begins his co-ed high school life amid Maken duels and unexpected romantic entanglements.
Oct 5, 2011Haruko Amaya escorts childhood friend Takeru Ooyama to Tenbi Academy, a private prep high school that recently transitioned from all-girls to co-ed. While Haruko prepares for the welcoming ceremony, Takeru observes a confrontation between Azuki Shinatsu and Garrett Kinua, who are settling a wager over a teddy bear. He also encounters Kodama Himegami, who watches from a tree. During the ceremony, principal and physical education teacher Minori Rokujou explains that students must master an Element to obtain one of the original eight Maken weapons. Kodama challenges Takeru to a duel, but the match is interrupted by Inaho Kushiya, who claims to be Takeru's fiancée. Takeru is assigned to a dormitory where he shares a room with Kodama and Inaho. A jealous Haruko decides to move in with them as well.

During the exams, school nurse Aki Nijou fails to identify Takeru's Element, leaving him without a Maken and defenseless. Inaho promises to protect him, while Minori and Maken creator Gen Tagayashi express concern over his condition. Later, Takeru wishes to join the pin-up girl photo club, but Haruko forbids it, suggesting he instead consider the security committee.

As vice president, Haruko explains that this body ensures fair duels and protects participants, distinct from the magical enforcer committee. At a school track duel, Azuki defeats Kai Kuragasa using her mechanized boot Maken, Hawk, against his steel-hardening Maken, Full Metal. Inspired, Takeru joins the committee alongside Kengo and Inaho. The group attends a mixed-bathing onsen party where members wear swimsuits. Despite formal introductions, Takeru and Kengo continue to stare at their female peers. A sudden bear intrusion allows the members to display their powers, demonstrating the spirit of the magical security organization known as Maken-ki.

Takeru and Kodama’s Park Date Ends in Ambush and Mysterious Kiss
Oct 26, 2011Following intense security committee training, Takeru meets Kodama at a park to investigate the mark on his chest. While they shop and visit a maid café, Haruko, Inaho, and Kengo secretly tail them. The pair is ambushed by Kodama’s admirers, but she repels them using her Maken, Yasakani. Hebiyama Hideteru of Kamigari then attacks, prompting Takeru to save Kodama by kissing her in the lake. Takeru retains no memory of the event, yet Kodama returns the kiss, shocking their pursuers and the stalker trio.

Haruko Proves Her Strength Against Kumi Amio's Web Attack
Nov 2, 2011Takeru prepares his own meals after Haruko criticizes his convenient mishaps. Azuki oversees an arm wrestling contest between Chacha Akaza and a male student. Furan and treasurer Yuka Amato task Takeru and Uruchi Minaya with investigating memory-loss attacks on campus. Meanwhile, Haruko and secretary Kimi Satō handle club budget negotiations. Takeru encounters Kumi Amio, who uses her yo-yo Maken, Nephila, to ensnare victims. After trapping Takeru and Uruchi, Haruko intervenes with her blade Maken, Murakumo. She destroys the web and defeats Kumi, reaffirming her status as the school's strongest girl.

Nov 9, 2011The rainy season triggers Inaho’s memories of meeting Takeru in a park eight years ago. During Element training, Takeru reveals that Kumi lacks memory of her attacks, while Minori showcases her power on Kai. After grocery shopping, Takeru visits the park with Inaho but fails to recall a childhood promise, causing her to wander into the mountains. She finds a stray cat with a cross on its head and names it Monji. Encouraged by Haruko and Kodama, Takeru searches for Inaho but faces Kengo’s anger for her danger. Takeru rushes to the mountains, saving Monji from falling rocks. Inaho uses her Maken, Kamudo, to rescue Takeru. Although she cannot remember their agreement to marry, Takeru’s vow to always protect her brings her peace.

Venus Mercenaries Arrive as Exchange Students to Hunt Yamata no Orochi
Nov 16, 2011Gen recruits the Venus mercenary unit while Takeru receives his Maken. Akaya Kodai announces that Venus members will attend as exchange students until summer to hunt the Yamata no Orochi revival culprit. Yang Ming provokes Azuki, leading Yuka to organize a three-on-three volleyball match in the gym. Haruko, Azuki, and Chacha face Demitra Midia, Syria Ootsuka, and Yang Ming, with Aki refereeing. Furan wagers that Maken-ki will join Venus if they lose. The match escalates into a duel between Haruko and Demitra that destroys the gym. The game ends in a draw, and both teams take a commemorative group photo.

Nov 23, 2011Teen net idol Syria develops a strong interest in Takeru, while Kimi compares Lilou Finnian and Aililou Finnian to dolls for Kodama. Yang Ming outperforms Garrett and Azuki in the long jump, and Haruko advises skilled onion slicer Demitra to enjoy school life. Encouraged by Demitra, Yang Ming, Lilou, and Aililou, Syria decides to pursue Takeru by eliminating rivals Inaho, Haruko, and Kodama. After Syria sends Takeru a secret love letter requesting a post-school meeting in the parking lot, Kengo alerts Haruko and Kodama. Furan and Yuka assign the latter two to investigate the shrine behind the clock tower. Syria leads Takeru to a shack, while Haruko and Kodama encounter Yang Ming nearby. When Inaho joins them, it appears Syria is performing S&M on Takeru. Haruko and Inaho rush past Demitra to the shack, where Inaho destroys it, revealing that S&M actually stands for song and music.

Her presence distracts Demitra and Yang Ming, allowing Takeru to take Syria's headband. Venus completes their secret mission with Martha's help. Takeru and Kengo cannot celebrate because Kageshiro Usuya uses his Maken, Chameleon, to make all female students invisible on the first day of co-ed swimming class.

Dec 7, 2011Martha meets Haruko, Inaho, Furan, and Kimi on the roof, demonstrating her ability to sense surroundings with closed eyes. Meanwhile, Takeru and Kengo witness a conflict between Otohime "The Manipulator" Yamato and Sho Tachinami. Sho employs his Maken, Kaesto, a glove that pulls targets within range, while Otohime uses Doll House to create voodoo dolls for manipulation. Takeru intervenes to protect Sho, prompting Martha and Akaya to end the fight. Back in the student council room, Furan and Yuka reprimand Takeru for the interference and his failed Element practical exam, stripping his Maken-ki duties. Martha suggests an overnight cram session. While Martha hosts a slumber party with Haruko, Inaho, and Kodama, Takeru trains with Kengo at the shrine. Kodama later confronts Martha in the woods, where she notes Takeru shares her spiritual waveform. The following day, Takeru passes the resit and regains his position.

Dec 14, 2011Gen and Minori clarify that Takeru's Maken, Overblow, is an internal ability that neutralizes opponents' powers only if they are active. Meanwhile, Furan and Yuka pressure the security committee to fund the annual summer camp by working at a maid café event. As the event gains popularity, chaos increases, annoying Akuzi. Takeru discovers that Minori, Gen, and Aki have been friends since high school. During the busy service, Inaho collides with Furan and Yuka, leading Takeru to comfort her. Chacha executes an excessive milk prank, causing an embarrassed Haruko to flee to the parking lot. Otohime dispatches an unknown attacker against Haruko, but Takeru intervenes until Azuki defeats the assailant. It is revealed that the attacker is Catherine, the cross-dressing maid café manager, who was mind-controlled by the Kamigari.

Dec 21, 2011Haruko is kidnapped by Otohime within the Kamigari secret base, leading Takeru to learn from Kikyo Yamato that she is held on the mountains. Takeru duels Kikyo, recalling lessons from his late mother Atsuma Ooyama about true strength, which awakens the Yamata no Orochi spirit. Otohime informs her brother Gouken Yamato that the Kamigari intend to take over Maken-ki after Takeru destroys Tenbi Academy. Inaho, Kodama, Kengo, Azuki, Uruchi, Kimi, and Chacha prepare to fight as Takeru arrives at the schoolyard. Haruko uses the Kamigari's manipulation of innocent powers to her advantage. Venus arrives to rescue Haruko and confront the Kamigari. Using Lilou and Aililou's Jingu, Time/Space Keep, Haruko teleports to the schoolyard and employs Murakumo to free Takeru from the Orochi spirit. Furan, Yuka, and other Maken-ki members pursue Kikyo to prevent her from taking Takeru away. The group eventually returns to their regular duties and daily lives.
