While visiting Cafe Poirot, Conan Edogawa meets waitress Azusa Enomoto, who is preparing for Halloween. He learns that a "pumpkin ghost" is causing a stir in town. Tamie Kono arrives urgently, accompanied by neighbors Tomomi Koriyama and Gouji Mizunuma. The trio had entered the Yonehana-cho Shopping Street Halloween Pumpkin Contest using pumpkins provided by Azusa, but their entries were stolen. Although Tamie is a three-time winner, the theft of the others' pumpkins seems unjustified. Conan and Azusa proceed to inspect the locations where the pumpkins were left to assess the situation and gather clues regarding the disappearance.
