Inspector Megure investigates the body of Iwao Yamashita found in a Tokyo factory, suspecting the location is not the murder scene. Police discover a safe and bloody figurine at Yamashita's home, confirming it as the crime scene. Two days later, Kyosuke Temukai, a figure from a case three years ago, appears. Megure recalls Temukai’s past scandal involving a contractor, which cost him his government job and fueled resentment. Now in publishing, Temukai targeted Yamashita for a self-published autobiography. Although Temukai claims an alibi, he suffered a car accident the morning after the murder, destroying his vehicle. Megure suspects Temukai transported and burned the body to hide evidence. Determined to prove his theory, Megure decides to arrest Temukai, risking his own career in the process.
