Suspecting foul play, Conan discovers that a boat and anchor were stolen prior to Kensuke’s capsizing. After investigating Masahiko’s home and noting a dog house sign, he knocks out Kogoro to reveal the murder method. The killer drugged Kensuke and Kumada, then used a submerged anchor to capsize the boat, drowning Kensuke, while hanging Kumada. The culprit is Yaeko Kamei, Kensuke’s caretaker, who is actually Tamiko Tsuruta, Masahiko’s mother seeking revenge for his death by Kumada. Yohan’s recognition of Yaeko despite her disguise supports this theory. Yaeko confesses to the crimes, leading to her arrest, although Kensuke testifies in court to acquit Kumada of murder for profit.
