During school break, Professor Agasa, Conan, and the Junior Detective League visit a beach where Ran and Sonoko are also present. That evening, the group dines at a hotel with lifeguards they met earlier. When a contact fails to appear, the lifeguards attempt to call him but hear only ocean waves. Three lifeguards search the shore and discover a man dead, wrapped in a fisherman's net and covered in scratches.
