Heiji Hattori invites Conan Edogawa to a kendo tournament, but the investigation begins when a drunk man named Atsushi Tarumi is found dead in a storage room. The body is later discovered in the shower room, leading Heiji to reveal that Takashi Kategawa drugged Tarumi and used red paint to frame him for murder. Tarumi, believing he committed a crime, moved to the shower room wearing Tsuba Zeriai, where Kategawa killed him. Later, a man is set ablaze atop Osaka Castle. Heiji and Conan determine that Shigehiko Wakisaka, a tour guide, used self-destructing flashlights to commit the murders. Wakisaka confesses to killing the guides who murdered his grandfather thirteen years ago. Arihiro Kasuya admits to the past crime and attempts to kill Heiji before being apprehended by the police.
