Following an armed robbery, Kogoro meets friend Horikoshi Yumi, who mentions an upcoming Judo class reunion. Later, police note a missing weapon. At the evening reunion, attendees Ayashiro Yukio, Ayashiro Noriko, Omura Jun, detective Nakamichi Kazushi, and Yumi play table tennis before planning to watch fireworks. Yumi naps while Kogoro, Ran, and Conan attend the event. During dinner, the group attempts to wake Yumi but discovers her dead from a gunshot wound to the temple. Kogoro and Kazushi realize it is murder because the wound lacks burn marks, indicating the shot was not self-inflicted.
