Shinichi explains to his mother that theater staff shortened a mirror, leading to a trap door used by Heath and actress Rose Hewitt. Yukiko identifies Rose as the killer, who shot Heath through a gap in the fog and planted the gun. Evidence includes blood on Rose's glove. Shinichi and Ran take a taxi, but Ran meets a mysterious FBI agent warning her of a nearby serial killer. Ran finds the killer on a fire escape, where he falls but is saved by the pair. Ran collapses from illness, and Shinichi vows to capture the man. Later, Sharon calls Yukiko to say an angel watched over Ran. Ran recovers and calls Shinichi, who reveals the killer was found murdered by police shortly after their encounter.
