Ep. 296: Kawai invites friends to a houseboat dinner where a guest dies during fireworks
Aired on October 14, 2002Filler

296
Kazuyuki Kawai hosts Kogoro, Ran, and Conan for dinner and fireworks on his houseboat. Guest Tsuneo Yamasaki is discovered dead from electrocution. Kogoro initially suspects an accident caused by slipping water. Conan investigates and determines it is murder. He tranquilizes Kogoro and uses his voice-changing bowtie to expose Kawai as the killer. Kawai rigged the fishing rod to snag the boat bow. He asked Yamasaki to help reel it in, then pushed him. This caused the line to sever via a hidden razor blade, making Yamasaki fall onto exposed wires. Conan presents evidence that Kawai melted rubber from wires using his lighter to facilitate the crime.
