Ep. 304: Police Headquarters Trembles as Twelve Million Hostages Face Danger
Aired on January 6, 2003

304
Sato recalls a bombing incident from three years ago involving a riddle faxed to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police. Matsuda found the device, noting a clue to a larger bomb appeared only in the final three seconds before detonation, and sacrificed himself to help locate the second device. In the present, the bomber returns with a new fax. The Detective Boys, Takagi, and Sato work to decrypt the message. An explosion at Tokyo Tower strands a girl in an elevator. Takagi and Conan rescue her but become trapped by a second blast. Conan disarms the elevator bomb, revealing the code refers to the English word "Detective," which translates to Teitan when flipped in kanji. The bomb at Teitan High is neutralized, and the bomber is apprehended.
