Kogoro Mouri accepts a case from Ryozo Gamo to locate a witness for his alibi. After Gamo expresses despair, he is discovered hanged in a distant forest. While police assume suicide, Kogoro argues it is murder because Gamo could have ended his life at home. Following an interrogation of Gamo’s nephew, Kyosuke Arai, Kogoro faces media scrutiny regarding the murder conclusion. He then reunites with former detective Isao Takeoka, who wrongly accused Gamo of a crime five years prior. Together, they investigate Gamo’s connections and visit Arai’s residence, identifying inheritance as a potential motive. The following day, Arai is found hanged in his home, leading Kogoro to close his detective agency by removing its sign.
