Kogoro, Ran, and Conan visit an ocean-side onsen where mortgage president Hideaki Umezu is found dead beneath a boulder. While police assume an accident, Conan detects scratch marks indicating foul play. Suspects include Umezu’s secretary, his two daughters, and manager Koichi Maekawa. Conan tranquilizes Kogoro to expose Maekawa, proving Umezu drowned rather than crushed, supported by dirt under his fingernails. Maekawa used a buoy and wooden block mechanism to roll the boulder after the tide receded, creating an alibi. He confesses that Umezu’s pressure on his father led to the elder’s death, motivating the murder.
